I've got a 53, but I think the steering column setup is the same. There is no connection between the column and the floor. At the bottom, the steering box bolts to the frame. At the top, there is a clamp connection to the underside of the dash. At the level of the floor, there are metal plates with rubber sandwiched between them to create a weather seal where the column comes through the floor.
