1980 351w with a variable venturi carb. Will a motorcraft 2150 bolt right on to existing manifold?

Thanks, the VV is a mechanical nightmare. I would assume that some modification would be needed for kickdown. Any suggestions on what model of 2150? The current VV has TPS and some feedback wiring that looks to be used for the charcoal canister(emissions/gas fumes control when off). I would think the wiring for this can go by the way of the junk yard along with the canister. I also have crank trigger ignition with modual on fender well. Seems to work ok but I understand that a vacuum advance distributor with pick-up is a better set up. If so, what part and are part number should bolt up without shaft or gear modification? Thanks for your help.

Also, the transmission shifting is not controlled by a vacuum modual, so I would think that TPS is a must on the carb.

I'm assuming you have an AOD transmission. There is a 2150 that has the right TV (Throttle Valve) or kickdown lever on it. The TV does essentially the same job as a vacuum modulator on other transmissions. The AOD needs the correct TV lever or it wont shift properly.
A Duraspark ignition system out of a similar 351W is your best bet. You will need the distributor, module and wiring for it. The easiest would be to find a donor truck at a wrecking yard and take a look to see what the differences are. It's not a difficult swap.

Do you know what 2150 will fit with the TV lever on it? It is the AOD tranny. Do you happen to know what the solenoid on the left front of V V is for? It has about 6 wires on the harness and plugs into the solenoid on the carb. It is just about above the TPS/infront of electric choke housing.

Thanks

I believe that is the fuel metering solenoid.

I believe you are reffering to the Feedback Control Actuator (FBCA). It controls a metering rod on the V.V. carb that bleeds vacuum from the control vacuum chamber into the fuel bowl. This lowers the pressure in the fuel bowl which leans out the mixture.

I've tested my FBCA with an ohm meter and believe it's not working. The V.V. carb is obsolete and I've been unable to find a replacement FBCA. It seems they fail in the closed (rich) position and doesn't seem to affect engine operation. I've unplugged it and it didn't seem to change anything. So you could probably do without it if the 2150 has no provision for it.

BTW, the ignition system on our trucks is EEC-III and is also called Dura Spark-III. It's unique in that it allows up to 50 degrees of ignition advance as determined by the ECA.

It's been years since I've done one of these swaps but I believe the carb you need is off a similar year Clown Victoria or F150 with an AOD. Most F150's (at least around here) didnt have VV's. If you find one off a 302 that should work fine too. The main thing is to find one in a vehicle with an AOD.
