Well as I said in my post i'm not very informed on this kinda stuff, I hope to learn more through this forum and increase my knowledge. Well anyways I was told that not all 460 engines are the same. I wanted to get some new heads and wanted to know the year so I can get the parts that actually fit my engine.
Any 429/460 heads will fit your block (even the later EFI ones)
D3VE-A2A were used from '73- '87.
E7TE were the first fuel injected.
F3TE were improved FI.
D1VE were the first 'smog' heads and *absolutely* the worst.
C8VE and D0OR heads are higher compression, but if you can't get MINIMUM 97 octane *leaded* fuel (like you could in 1970) you should not even think about them.
So since most heads do fit the 460 i have, would i by any chance have to change camshafts? Ive had people say yes ect that id need to change push rods as well. I just want some heads that can give me about 50 more HP without having to change my cam shaft or push rods ( if its even possible) if its not, i wouldnt mind changing out my push rods but i wouldnt want to change my cam shaft, oh and i really appreciate all your guys help. Its really helping me out.
If you go to a CJ or SCJ style head with stud mounted rockers you will need hardend pushrods and guide plates.
If you deck the block or mill much off the heads you will need shorter pushrods to keep the geometry correct.
D3VE heads will easily support 50 more horsepower.
They will need to be ported and the block needs to be milled to bring the pistons up to the top of the bores.
Change the timing set to a later efi style double roller chain that isn't retarded.
Recurve the distributor to take advantage of the raised compression.
