Well I purchased a 2004 F-250 over the weekend after driving it for 3 days with combination of street and hwy miles and EOT & ECT staying right around 8 degrees delta I drove it home from AZ to CA and about 45 minutes into the trip I took a look at my gauges
(torque pro) and my delta was 45 degrees!!!! With an average cruising speed of 75ish it stayed at 45 degrees delta the whole rest of the trip.
Needless to this is not what I wanted to see but now I need to figure out what to do to keep this from going from bad to worse...
My thoughts are ford oil cooler and BPD egr cooler. While in there go ahead and do the blue spring kit?
I am pretty mechanically enclined and could probably do this work myself but I do not have a garage or space to do this work, does anybody know of a good and fair diesel mechanic in the Orange County CA area?
Sounds like this could be the first time you have driven it far enough to get a proper read on oil cooler function
Oil cooler test is steady hwy at 65-75mph for about 20-30 min coming from cold soak
If you slow down or stop the test is bust to a point start over and maintain those speeds til temps top out again
Check for oil degass
Also check all temps after cold soak they need be same or within a couple degrees each other
I can't remember but I know these guys will you may have a round erg cooler if early 04
I made two trips on hwy while testing 20 minutes each way after about 15 minutes of street driving between 65-70mph and the delta never went over 8.
ECT was 178 and EOT was 186
On the trip home to CA, ECT was steady at 178.8 and EOT was between 226-238 no noticeable issues such as power loss or hesitation at all would have never thought there was a problem of I didn't have the Torque app to show readings.
For one... your ECT is to low, you need a new thermostat. It should be 192* with a new one or closer to 192*, definitely above 185 to allow the temps the truck needs to run better.
The test is 15 minutes on flat ground, no load in bed or towing anything, 65mph after your at full temp, no stop and go... flat out 15 minutes at 65mph. Change the T-stat and test it again, if it comes back hot, new oil cooler, EGR cooler, blue spring, chemical flush first, then oil/EGR cooler change-out and go back EC-1 coolant.
