EOT vs ECT Temps.

I just installed a Scanguage II. Took the truck out for an hour drive on the highway 70 mph, unloaded in 102 degree Texas heat. The delta on the temps never got above 13 degrees. Just looking for some input as to whether I have no problems or if I have a problem in waiting?

If you've never replaced your engine oil cooler or EGR cooler, believe me you have a problem in waiting......esp if you tow! Or if you run other than stock tunes.....unloaded you are within 2 degrees of delta......

Some more information is that I have an 03 with 95K on it. Driving around town for extended periods the delta on the temps is only 2-4 degrees. Should I get the oil cooler replaced now or wait?

my oil cooler is new and when its 95+ ambeint at 70mph with the A/C running I will see 8-10* spread

But most of the time around town and stuff 4-6* spread

being you have the 03 you have the round egr cooler very few blow outs

at your milage it probably could use a flush but that may also clog the oil cooler IDK Id probably just drop the coolant and refill

I would at least get a coolant filter on it if you dont already cheap insurance you truck doesnt sound near as bad as some are

Mines a little worse. Unloaded delta hangs around 13. If you tow it's gonna creep up though. I've seen EOT as high as 240 on hills with 10k fifth wheel in tow. Deltas of 23-25. Upper 90's OAT. Almost panic but temps will come down some if I slow down and after some discussion I think it's a borderline problem. From what I understand dino oil is ok (not scorching) up to 260 or more. I wonder if those are the conditions that causes the silicate drop out though. I have put a coolant filter on mine and plan to replace the oil cooler over the holidays and be easy on the towing until then. I bought some CAT ELC but haven't put in yet cause I'm hung up on a stump about the flushing business.

I have about the same delta spread with my truck. I have the original OEM oil cooler. I think there is something to be said for 5000 mile oil changes, and Mobil-1 oil and yearly radiator flushes

I think you have a problem. I just pulled 16000lbs from North Pole Alaska to Alma Georgia. Kansas City was 106'.....I never saw any temps above 232' on my oil and My ECT hit 222' once.

I just installed a new oil cooler , egr cooler on my 06 and saw a consistent 8-10 degree spread at 70mph unloaded, thought at first I had an issue but got reassured on here that the temps were not that bad , that was about 1500 miles ago and temps still rock solid on highway and only a 3-5 degree spread around town with ac on and 90d 90%humidity, so far so good runs great

I agree it should be lower. Just a matter of how bad is it and is it hurting anything. I read a post were EOT was 250 Sumthin and ECT was 230 sumthin towing with no
puking. A guy at work has had similar #'s towing also. Being my unloaded delta is just under spec, it would be convenient for Santa to bring me a oil cooler for Christmas and I can install it while I have some time off work. I just put cylinder heads on my sister-in-laws Tahoe and it took me a whole week! (after work n weekend) being a Diesel newbie no telling how long an oil cooler might take. Lol

Sorry Qwatali Hunter, didn't mean to hijack. My point was I think your truck is headed the same way as mine just not as far along.
What is a qwatali?

Qwatali is Swahili for Cape Buffalo. I used to be a Professional Hunter in Africa. Thanks for all the advice. Will get the coolant flushed and replaced and see what happens. Will also be putting a coolant filter on as well.

If climbing or cresting a hill, those deltas don't mean anything unless you're actually overheating.

Driving home from work yesterday 95 degrees out & going 70 MPH unloaded down the interstate I was at a firm EOT 224 ECT 206 off the Edge Insight. Been reading for awhile & not sure what to do yet in my situation.

Man, I was hoping to hear that ! Do you see similar temps? I did finially decided I wasn't hurting anything but it's still a little unnerving to see #'s like that towing and away from home.
