well it's finally a roller. Feels like a huge accomplishment after sitting on jackstands for over a year. Next step is to get the steering buttoned up.
Been slacking off with taking pictures and keeping the thread updated.
Today I put a rock auto order in for parts to get the 9 inch back together. New ring and pinion, master rebuild kit with koyo bearings and new axle bearings. I'm installing Timken set20 tapered bearings, doing away with the straight roller bearings it currently has. I really wanted to install a locker but it's just not in the budget now, so I'll be running an open diff. Its too bad my stock LS unit looks like this
I boxed the frame in from the trans x-member up to the bumper and built my crossmember. I plan to gusset the crossmember and add a hidden hitch receiver behind the front plate.
More snails pace progress. Got everything to get the rear diff back together. Man was this thing worn out. Splines in the yoke nearly stripped and axles splines wore down to a sharp edge.
I have the center section all assembled now, just waiting on a new yoke so I can set the gears set up. Bought another old 9 inch for spare parts. Splines are in good condition, sealing surface not so much. Fixing that with a speedi-sleeve. Had a bit of time after work today to get one shaft cleaned up and sleeve installed
Drivetrain wise, not really much to update on. Ive really been slacking on the pics and updates since all my other picture links were broken thanks to photobucket. I need to spend a few hours fixing all my older posts.
I recently ordered my DOM for my steering, had to get it out Alberta, turns out it was almost impossible to find shorter lengths of the size I needed locally.
I grabbed a bronco driveshaft from the pick n pull, it's a double cardan shaft which I'll be using for my front shaft, just need a t-case yoke.
I installed a 1350 yoke at the rear output. Still need to have a new rear shaft built.
Front half painted, a little work remaining on in the bed before I paint it.
Also installed all new rear brakes last weekend. It's slowly coming together. Driveline, shocks, steering, windshield, finish the body and paint, and I should be close to complete
Here it is as it sits.
stake pocket rust repair
In hindsight I should have invested in new besides, way too much time with a hammer and dolly spent here trying to make the originals somewhat straight. Hopefully I can get 10 years out of this haha
