97 shiftying problrms

Lead Head What happens is when I put the truck in gear it starts to move ahead and as soon as it reaches 2000 rpms it drops to 1000 rpms then up to 2000 rpms and back to 1000 rpms. This prosess continues until around 30 mph. At this point it shifts into high gear.Now it wont shift down and it wont kick up because its in high gear.When I push the od button it takes it out of high to third but that's all it will shift.

Sounds to me like a bad wire at the plug on on the passenger side.
Pull the back off the plug and check the wires for breaking off the pins.

97 shift prodlem

Subford Thanks for info. not clear exactly where plug is on passenger side.The plug I am thinking of is the one on the drivers side plugging into the shift linkage on the side of the trany.Thanks

97 shift problems

Subford finished checking plug cleaned inspected all is fine exact match to your pic test drove manually shifted all gears great but same original problem continues when starting in drive.
