I own a 2008, Ford F450 with the 6.4 liter diesel engine. I have125,000 miles on my truck. Recently I have been hearing a squealing sound coming from the engine. The sound can be heard after going downhill using engine braking, foot off the throttle, and then just as I apply the throttle the squealing sound comes on. If I let off the throttle the squeal gets less, if I apply more throttle the noise gets louder. After about five seconds the noise goes away. Everything works just fine. I do not notice any performance or driving issues at all. It is just a squealing noise. I noticed a slight oil leak around the front crankshaft sealand a discoloration of the drive belt for the air-conditioning compressor. I went to a Ford dealership in Raleigh, NC and they diagnosed the leak as the crankshaft seal and that the oil was getting on the AC drive belt causing the squeal. I had them replace the leaking seal. I also had them replace both of the belts and one of the belt tensioners. The total cost was $965. It seems that the oil leak has stopped but the squeal has not. Has anyone out there experienced a similar noise and if so what was the fix? Thanks for your help!
I have the same truck you and had that squeal just as you are describing. I changed the belts and removed the ac belt and squeal still present. Ford could not figure it out. So I took it to power stroke help and they diagnoised it as a exhaust leak. After they removed the cab three of the exhaust header bolts were missing the head of the bolt. They replaced the bolts and gasket....squeal gone.
