Quick questions, got a clicking noise coming from the front of my truck, sounds like the belt, but the belt looks fine. it's an 89 F250 with the 460.
The clicking speeds up as the engine revs up too. I can't determine a specific cause of the noise, I'm thinking it might be a loose pulley or something of that nature...what do you guys think it is?
well if you think it is a pulley take the tension off the belt and start wiggling.... but you didnt say if it was a metalic click may be an exhaust leak manifolds are known for cracking..
well i dont know the price of the manifolds. you have to look and if it is leaking or cracked you will see carbon build up around the area it is leaking from. not sure if the heat has anything to do with it not really thinking that it does but the fact that the timing seems to be off might be of some concern seeing as the computer is supposed to handle it all once the base timing is set.
When you checked the timing, did you unplug the SPOUT connector? You could take a length of rubber hose (like vacuum line or fuel line) and use it like a stethoscope around the manifolds to listen for a leak.
As for the no heat concern, have you checked your coolant level? If it is low, look at the bottom of the water pump and see if there are traces of seepage from the little weep hole. If there are signs of leaking, it could be the bearings are bad, causing a leak past the seals, which would cause no heat when the coolant gets too low.
thanks for the info, I'll have to check to coolant, haven't worried too much about it since just about everybody here says that their coolant levels are always low on the older trucks.
I haven't actually checked the timing, I just asked about the problem of a little hesitation on the board, and a few people pointed out that it could be the timing.
It's been snowing so I really haven't had a chance to pop the hood and check on the manifold leak, but I'll check it out and post an update.
