I'm looking at a 1992 Ford Bronco with a 5.0 V8, automatic transmission, and an axle code of 19. If I understand correctly this is the 3.55 open differential and if I'm in mud 1 rear wheel will spin and 1 rear wheel will do nothing. My question is what do the front wheels do in four-wheel-drive in the mud? Will 1 front wheel also spin and 1 front wheel do-nothing or does the front axle, regardless of the rear type axle, have limited slip and both front wheels will pull? Thank you.
LS front diff was a special order only so not very common. With open diffs you will only get 1 wheel on each axle driving in slippery conditions, the other will sit there and do nothing.
If you are contenplating adding posi, it's a good idea to use a "soft" posi on the front. You can get as aggressive as you want on the back.
But if you live/drive in snow/ice an aggressive rear posi will sometimes just shove you straight ahead, or break the rear loose easier as one wheel will break traction in a turn just from the internal clutch lock vs little resistance from ice and then as soon as you give it any power, it will break the other one loose, so you go sideways easily
ARB Air Locker is a good choice for the rear with a soft posi in front
