4x2 both rear wheels spin?

Okay, this is probably a stupid question but here it goes. If you have a non-4x4 are both rear wheels suppose to spin? This is what I assumed but I noticed yesterday that when I was reversing over some grass I came to a wet spot and the right wheel started to spin. I couldn't go anymore in reverse so I put into drive and all was fine. Can someone clarify?

Unless you have a limited slip differential or install a locker, a normal open differential will transmit all the torque to the wheel that has the least resistance, which, in your case was the wheel in the wet grass. In short, yes, this is normal.

In your situtaiton, both rear wheels would spin only if you have the limited slip rear axle option so your truck must not have this option. A limited slip rear axle has clutch packs that transfer power to the wheel that is not spinning. The standard rear axle is called an open differential.
