C4 Corvette Front Clip

C4 Corvette Front Clip
Hey All,
I am certain someone has done this, my question is has anyone done it using the stock corvette mono spring as opposed to coil overs?
I am going the way of using the stock C4 front clip now I am a little concerned that the single carbon fiber spring won't be enough... Am I just worried about nothing or??
Thank You,
Chris

The "why not" is the mounting. The C4 crossmember was designed to mount the CF spring...no other IFS is setup for this "over the axle" type mount, you will either have to use the C4 crossmember or design something that will replace it. The C4 (and other Vettes for that matter) have the engine set back behind the IFS. In your application the engine will sit OVER the IFS...now you have a clearance issue between the spring and the oil pan. I have been down this road before, here is a pic of a C4 front frame section that I grafted onto my 50 Merc chassis...this was the last option to make the stock IFS work and it was canned because it placed the engine too far back into the firewall, the Vette geometry causes all kinds of issues when you try to use it on other vehicles.

I am using the the Vette crossmember. We mocked the whole thing up, only place that was a bit tight was between the rack and the bottom of the oil pan. So I am rebuilding and mounting the rack before placing the LS1 in it's mounts. If it ever takes a dump I will have to lift the motor. Other than that I didn't see any other problems... Yet :-(
Thank You for the information, I do appreciate it.

There are places to buy a R&P with the hydraulics on the front of the unit instead of the top. This is achieved by rotating the barrel of the R&P 90 degrees. Talk to Don McNeil at FlatOut Engineering in Anaheim or check into Paul Newman (http://www.newmancarcreations.com/) in Paso Robles...he builds some nice chassis' with C4 components. Here is the front end of one I saw at the GoodGuys show here in Del Mar some time ago...

Here is a shot of the rearend...I was interested in the tie rod assembly since it mounts from below the hub arms. I had my chassis bagged and really needed the extra clearance. I ended up buying that tie rod assy from Newman, it was a really nice piece and only cost $265 at the time...probably higher now.
