i think i pair $5 for a 4 pack of red LED's on the internet.
as already said, it is not worth re engineering the instrument cluster to make the cluster light work off the output of the glow plug relay.
The 99-01 vehicles already have the wiring run outside the firewall. All one needs to do there is cut and splice a length of wire from the glow plug relay, use a relay from it to control a ground, then connect it to the wire for the glow plug light coming out of the PCM .
The "glow plug light coming out of the PCM"? Is this the same as the "Wait To Start" light?
Wish I coulda' shot ya' some reps, but I'm in jail wit' ya'.
But, heck, you sure don't need 'em with a full pull.
You have described one of the slickest mods on this whole GPR subject, and it converts the idiot light to an indicator of the relay status. No light? No G/P current.
All of my glow plug stuff on my three 7.3L pickups is stock except the glow plug light (yes, the Wait To Start) in the 1973. The 02-03 PCMs have an output driver for a bulb but it's not used in the PCM connector or harness; all that's required there is an extra terminal out of another connector and a small drill to drill out the harness connector cavity. I HATE adding aftermarket things to my vehicles so no extra lights or fancy stuff going on.
I have played extensively with glow plug controls on these pickups on the tuning side of things and while I'm not saying that any of it does any good, I've replaced ONE glow plug relay in that time and two sets of glow plugs. I have owned five 7.3L trucks since 1999 and still have three of them. The current 1995 finally needs a relay and glow plugs at this time but I'm working on original 250,125-mile glow plugs. This thing's never had a valve cover off of it (bought it from original owner in early 2010) so it's getting injectors in the spring and I'll do them at that time. The current bush is close to the pickup so plugging it in should I need it is always an option.
I bought a 4 pk of red LED's at pep boys for another project cheap. So I had one laying around. If you install the cheap Azone HVAC blower you can hear it rev when the light goes out
