The intake on my (new, as in I don't know much about this vehicle yet) 78 had two broken off bolts and a tab that was broken off, so I bought a used one.
Me in my busy-ness this last month didn't notice that it was slightly different until it was on the truck and my carburetor had a wider spacing than the one that was on the new intake. I also noticed my original had an extra hole the new one doesn't have, as well as one that is plugged in mine and has a fitting on the new one.
THe first picture is the original, the second is the new one. I'm assuming I have to take everything I put on back off and find another intake, but again, not knowing much about these vehicles didn't know if there was an easier way of getting it running again.
The extra hole is for EGR plumbing. There are two carb spacings, 2 11/16 and 2 15/16. It is possible to widen out the mounting holes with a rat-tail file. In fact, some carb bases are slotted to allow either hole pattern to be used.
As far as EGR goes, it is not essential to make the vehicle function, but it is tuned for it and essential for a clean running engine. I don't want to advocate you eliminate, but then again, I don't want to advocate you drive 56 in a 55 MPH zone. Catch my drift?
Perfect. I saw the slotted base and was wondering if I could do just that. I noticed misc lines and such missing from before so I figured someone had pulled that stuff. Hopefully there's no vacuum issues.
