I picked an old FE intake out of the junkyard and had a few questions about it. I know it is a 4 barrel intake off of a 390, so i don't need help identifying the thing-- if its FE and 4 barrel I am sold . I am new to all of this so I bet these questions will be obvious to most on this forum:
1: I hear the later model intakes have smaller ports than the older ones. I'm sure putting the later model intake on my earlier model heads will work, but will the smaller ports give me less power than an older 4v intake with larger ports?
2: (here is the obvious one) On the surface intake where the carburetor sits there are the 4 holes for the barrels on the carb. But there is a 5th hole near the edge of that surface that is much smaller. It is obviously a part of the original intake and not drilled in later. What is this hole for?
The number on the intake is D5TE9425MB (just in case that is relevant to the issue)
D5TE9425MB= 1975 or newer intake. The extra hole is probably for a polution control device. I belive this hole will match a hole in the EGR space that goes beyween the intake and the carb. If I am mistaken I am sure a more knowledgeable member will correct it.
It is a 1975 or 1976 Truck intake (they dropped the FE after 1976) and the extra hole is for the EGR system. It will bolt onto the 1967 engine just fine and should work well. I would just plug the EGR hole with a plate.
Cool, sounds good! Any idea about the newer smaller ports on the newer intakes? I know it will work but would i see better performance with an older intake?

Unless you are building a race car motor, the smaller ports produce better low end and midrange performance than the old large ports. That's why Ford went to them, better street performance and fuel economy from higher mixture velocities.
I don't want to open a new thread when i can hopefully get some answers on here while its still relevant. I was wondering what could one expect to pay for FE intakes. What is the worth of a 4bbl and 2bbl intake. Are others more desirable and worth more? The reason I am asking is I have come across the opportunity to obtain a collection of FE intakes, and since I don't need 6 for my one 390 I was hoping to sell a few to pay for the rest of my build. In conclusion, how much could I sell a 2bbl and 4bbl cleaned and painted stock cast FE intake?
I got a edelbrock 4 bbl manifold for 50 bucks and threw out my 65 pound cast iron monster ..if you want I will give you 2 more 4 barrel iron rigs free!!a new aluminum manifold is a couple a hundred so the iron one are 25 to 50 bucks..or trade to someone for something you need unless it's a collector year specific it's good iron for scrap at 15 cents a pound

Your logic is totally flawed. The stock iron intakes work as good if not better on the average street motor than the high dollar aluminum intakes. The weight is noting as just how often do you pull the intake? If you did the build right the first time not for many years. Why spend money on something that helps the top end but just how much time do you spend at WOT? Unless you have a race motor, not much.
as I get older I appreciate the lighter aluminium parts ..and yes the stockers work well ..but not every one want's to swing 60 pounds of iron .and I do play with my motors the single 4 for normal driveing ,the 6-pack for showing off..so ..sorry I i offended you it was a ******** way of saying the iron manifolds are good if you need one but not gonna make you any money...one day I will learn how to say thing's without offence..till then ...Hi my name is Ken...and sometimes I screw up..
I have seen FE 4bbl intakes for hundreds on ebay.... cast iron ones ( a bit ridiculous honestly though). My question is just to those who do buy/sell these things-- what can i look to get for a painted up pretty cast stock FE intake. I dont have a stock pile of eddlebrock aluminum ones, but a pile of cast iron that resembles the weight of the anchor off the Titanic courtesy of FoMoCo.

It really depends on the intake. The 428 CJ/SCJ iron intakes do sell for $200-400 depending on the date codes. And it is a good intake besides. Most of the other stock cast iron offerings are not worth a whole lot. And are expensive to ship. You'd really need to take a good look at what he has vs what he wants for them.
