removing

my 89 F150 has the chrome 4x4 and F150 emblems and I wish to remove them for a paint job. I'm afraid if I pop them off I'll break them. suggestions?

I've had luck in the past, heating them up with a hair dryer or heat gun. The adhesive breaks down and then work a plastic scraper underneath. Be careful as to not get it too hot or it will distort the paint.

Also note there are often 2 tabs that fit in dimples or holes in the fender for alignment.

Fishing line. Work it between the badge and fender using a sawing motion and it'll cut thru the adhesive. You'll have to work around the tabs that fit into the fender.
