Brake Job

Hello. My '02 Supercrew F150 4X4 is due for brakes, and I'm thinking of tackling it myself. I used to do all my own repairs, but with a little more age and money I quit a few years back.
I'm tired of scrapping with the repair shops and paying too much for marginal work, so I'm back to doing it myself.
Could one of you guys give me a quick overview of getting the hubs off of the front. I've done Toyota 4x4's, but as I said, it's been awhile. Also, I'm interested in your thoughts on which brake pads to use. Thx! Gary

Garfre: I have personally had really good luck with Ceramic-technology pads. Good brake and easier on the rotors than the semi-metallics. Your truck is new enough that Ceramic may very well have been OE. The last few sets of brake pads I got from TireRack.com. I have used the Satisfied ProCeramics.

Thanks Russ.
Hello again all...
I guess I should update my post a little. I've since found a thread addressing the front rotor process. Sounds like the hub does not have to be removed... just the rotor. Is this correct? If so, is it just a matter of a BFH? I have one that I'm itching to use... therapy you know! Gary

I'm not sure about an 02, but the rotors on my 97 just sit over the lugs and around the hub. A few whacks with that BFH to loosen the rust, and they pop right off.

That's right....you dont have to touch the hubs. Remove the caliper support and the rotor slides off over the studs.

If you are lucky. They can be really seized on there. It took A LOT of whacks with a RBFSH (really big f-ing sledge hammer) and a RBFA (really big fire axe, aka torch) to get mine off, and I've had similar troubles with others.
