I changed my oil yesterday and on the way home from the parts house I could see the oil inside the containers moving around while I was driving. That 5w-20 is some thin stuff. I thought the containers of oil acted more like containers of ice tea or soda water.

Indeed it is. Which is why I switched up to 5-30 my next oil change once reading of the spec change on here. About 3000m ago with about half of that pulling a three horse bumper pull and no adverse effects. I've convinced myself it's slightly quieter, but.....??? Ran good before and still does now. 135,00ish miles on the truck, full synthetic oil always but no brand loyalty, whatever's on sale.

Our new V10's at work have 5W30 on the cap also. The manual say to use 5W30 as well in all Super Duty gas engines. I called our local dealer and they had no clue. Service manager told me that they have been told to put 5W30 in all of the eco boost vehicles but they still service the gas motored SD with 5W20.

So the dealer still adds the old recommended viscosity instead of what Ford now recommends? Brilliant, yet not surprising.

That's good to know. I switched my 2012 F150 6.2L to 5w-30 10k miles ago. I just stick with motorcraft oil/filters every 5k miles.

Ya know I can see Ford wanting to deal with one oil instead of two and bewildering everyone in the process.

So I have a 50k truck sitting in the yard I can't drive. Well unless I spend 9k for a new motor or Ford decides to cover it.
if I read it correctly you said all oil changes done by the dealer ? If that’s the case I can’t see how they can deny your claim.

Old Thread but 5W30 is approved oil for all 6.2L engines according to Ford. I have a stash of PP HM 5W30 for my other cars, so that is what my 2011 is getting.

At 185K, there is a bit of sludge, but nothing crazy. So I also put in a cup of seafoam in the old oil, getting changed in 100 miles. I think the PO was going by the computer, because it says 30% oil life left.

6.2L in the F150 had to meet CAFE standards. 5w20 helped meet those standards. Once the 6.2L was exclusive to the SuperDuty it did not have to meet the CAFE standards and the oil spec was changed to 5w30.

Wow so you are ordering 3 new 6.2L's! You must really have faith in that motor!
6.2L w/3.73s is my setup. Great combo.
