I installed a EGT and a Trans temp gauges in the 250 today. They didn't come with any info explaining temp ranges for towing, the reason I installed them.
So my question is how hot is too hot for towing before there's a problem.
Thanks
The transmission can go as high as 220F all day long with no problems. It can go up to 250F for no more than a half hour at a time.
220 seems like you'd be so close to having a problem if 250 is the boiling point! So if I hit 250, needless to say, Ill need to stop for a cool down. How long is a cool down period Knowing that outdoor temp, summer or winter, has a play in a cool down.
Who said 250F is the boiling point? The boiling point of ATF is approximately 600F. That's a long way from 250F.
The cool down time is long enough to cool it below 220F. Always cool the trans with the engine idling or fast idling in park or neutral. If you shut it off with the trans too hot you can damage the transmission.
I didn't mean BOILING POINT to be 250. I just ment it as the point of where damage would occur. I did'nt know atf boils at 600 degrees though Thanks for the reply. It's appreciated.
If it were me, after the engineer indicated the following, I would have just said Ok, thanks .... however I have asked my share of questions as well to make sure I understood .....
