Trans temp

So I installed gauges a few weeks back, Trans temp, boost, and egt, everything seemed normal until it started warming up outside. Today I noticed the temp was at about 90deg above ambient unloaded. Is this normal. I have read that 75-100 is ok but I am assuming that is loaded. Am I just being paranoid? And it increases while stopped at a stop sign.

my 7.3 runs 60-70 above ambient, even when towing. 90 above is alot, and increasing at a stop is not good. should drop when stopped. may have a stuck cooler bypass valve. search the threads on that. much info.

I don't think its normal for your Trans temp to go up when idling... I have heard that temps will rise if the bypass valve sticks. Some try tapping on it to get it to release. I just installed gauges on my 99 as well but I have not been able to get the Trans temp to get much above 100 but where I live it's only in the 40's and 50's right now. Just curious what was your outside temp? My 99 had a very small Trans cooler which I upgraded to the 6.0, about 2 1/2 times bigger.... Also the 99's don't route the Trans line through the radiator so no additional cooling there...

I don't know why but that is way high running unloaded. It can rise in stop and go traffic but I don't think you should see it go up that fast just coming to a stop.

So this morning I got in my truck and before I started it I recorded a few temps and I realized the problem right away before I even started my truck the trans temp was reading 75 deg. That’s nice since its 50 outside. So I contacted the manufacture and they are sending me a new sending unit

Good Catch. That right there is why i always check gauges before i install them or rely on them.

Before you thread in the new sender, Check it against a boiling pot of water and another gauge reading the water temp to compare..

You must have a digital readout to read as low as 75F? My analog trans temp gauge does not even start till 100F... What gauges did you install...
