I have a 1992 F250 with a 5 speed. I drove it yesterday and when I got in it this morning it started rolling when I hit the starter. I really had to use some force to get it out of gear so I could get it hauled back to my garage.
ok. the pedal sticks to the floor when you push it in. I replaced the clutch last year but I have been trying to teach a couple of my cousins how to drive manual and they were really hard on it.
Check the bushing/clip that attaches the pedal to the master cylinder. It probably broke and the master cylinder isn't on the pedal anymore causing the pedal to stay on the floor. On my 92 F150 it did this.
Otherwise ya it is the master or slave. On my 95 f250 work truck it was the slave.

As said in post #2, it could be the master or the slave, neither one is more likely, and if one is shot, the other's not far behind. What engine do you have? I don't know about the applications with internal slaves, but on those with external slaves and a conventional fork, your best bet is a complete pre-built pre-bled master-line-slave kit. About the same price, possibly cheaper, than a separate master and slave, and NO bleeding (which can be a PITA with these hydraulics).
But +1 on the bushing to the pushrod. FIRST thing to check.
It got the 5.8 (351), it has an internal Slave. I checked the fluid and it was low but not empty thank god. So I filled it up and it still will not release. My dad replaced the slave cylinder years ago but i might be out again. Like I said my cousins were really hard on the transmission. I am in high school but I work at carquest so I can get parts on discount so pricing is not a problem.
Firewall flex SHOULD be out of the picture in the OP's generation of truck. But you never know. That and the in-cab stuff should be checked before pulling the trigger on buying any hydraulics.
BTW, I do see pre-bled masters with the line attached on RockAuto. From what I read there, you plug the line into an existing slave and there's no bleeding.
I had a brain fart. I didn't pull out the plunger that went over the fluid. So I fixed that, it works. I checked the master and its fine but the slave cylinder is leaking really bad. We replaced it years ago and so I am currently working on dropping the tranny
