Well I just replaced my first clutch and what a PITA that was but now after I've put everything back together I have no clutch pedal. It just stays stuck to the floor.
When I put my slave back on (externally mounted) I had to push the rod back into the slave body and pry it back onto the bellhousing. When I did this I noticed a gurgling sound and it was no easy task to push that rod back in. So i'm wondering if I ruined the slave or master cylinder by doing this?
I figured I'd try bleeding it at the slave (it has a bleeder screw on it) to see if I could get any pedal at all and that hasn't worked.
I did notice that my Haynes manual said to disconnect the master cylinder rod because if the clutch pedal gets pressed with the slave off it would damage the slave. I didn't do this because I figured I just wouldn't push the clutch pedal.
Any ideas?
Did I trash the slave or master cylinder by forcing that rod back into the slave?
I had this same thing happen to my on my 85 bronco. When i pulled it to do the clutch i also didn't disconnect the pedal from the master cylinder but when i put it all back together my pedal also stayed on the floor and would not pump up. I just took a guess and changed my master cylinder and sure enough it worked. I never could figure out what made it do that. But when i did put another master cylinder on it, there is a small screw on top of the slave cylinder direcly next to where the hydraulic line attaches to it (at least there was on mine). I was able to slightly loosen the screw (mine took an allen wrench) and have someone push on the clutch pedal and worked the air back out of the system. Can't really tell ya how to tell whether its the clutch or slave cylinder, i guess i just got lucky. Maybe you can try bleeding it first. Matt
Hey thanks for the reply Matt. I'm afraid I'll end up replacing both the slave and master as I think I've damaged one or both of them. I was hoping I wouldn't have to dump anymore money into this clutch project but I guess that's why you should follow the manual.
I guess I'll try bleeding it at the slave one more time to see if I can get some pedal before I replace everything.
Does anyone know how test the slave or master to find out which is faulty?
