Hey guys i'm looking for advice that'll help me fix this 1973 CASE 310 diesel that my dad has had sitting behind his garage for 3 years. He says it needs a radiator as far as he knows, but i wouldn't be surprised if it needed some other work as well to get it running good. I'm familiar with diesel engines but is there anything in particular I should pay special attention to?? I believe this unit has a CASE 188 4cyl. Not sure how many hours.
A major overhaul kit is under $700 for that, looks like it runs a Bosch pump, so as long as it didn't sit with water in it and freeze it should be good.
You need to check with a Case dealer for availability on parts before you start on your project. The year I worked for them there were LOTS of parts that were being discontinued on machines that weren't very old (10 years or less) and you may not be able to find a radiator for it OR it may be prohibitively expensive. I know the motor parts are available.
As excited as i am to start learning something new I will admit it is very frustrating trying to find parts for this sucker. Assume that I no absolutely nothing about working on hvy eq because really i don't. I don't know what brand aftermarket parts to buy or where to look. I've been scouring Google and CL for used parts but to no avail. Are there any notable dismantlers I should check with? I'm considering finding a quality radiator that will fit the closest and fabricating as needed.

I would try a radiator shop... they might have leads not available to you...
I know there is a radiator specific shop up the street from me... that I have used once before (about 8 years ago),
