defroster issue

defroster issue

when i turn my defrosters on, i can feel the air coming through my vents as well. obviously this isnt right. what would i be looking into for a fix?

there are 3-4 different vacuum operated doors that direct the air to floor / vent / defrost / or combination... all this is controlled by the selector ****.. You can have a vacuum leak between the ports inside the valve, or you could have a damper door stuck .

My bet is the blend door actuator. Mine used to make a clicking noise when I changed the direction of the air flow. It was a few hundred dollars for a shade tree mechanic to do. I'm sure theres videos on the subject somewhere of that is the problem. It could be a DIY project but I didn't have time when mine failed.

the blend door is electric and controls the TEMP from the dash ****......... It has nothing to do with the AIR FLOW from the vacuum operated selector ****.

drawing in post #19 below shows the vacuum operated cylinders that control air flow. Default is to go to defrost if vacuum is lost.
