Front end Issues Pt II

So I gave the local shop a run, and they replaced the inner oil seals, and the upper and lower ball joints on the passenger side.

I have already replaced, steering damper, and left/right sway bar links.

I now I see grease on the driver side lower ball joint, the actual boot looks worn, what do you guys think is needed??

Should they re-inspect the inner oil seals? or just replace the ball joints on the drivers side?? Mind you the noises I used to hear on the passengers side I now hear on the drivers side SMH

Ball joints are typically done as a full set, not side by side.... If you're hearing the same noises, then yes - replace the driver side.

I figured that both should be changed at the same time.

The fluid around the lower ball joint on the driver side?? what can that be coming from??

Call me captain obvious but I will go ahead and speculate it is from the lower ball joint. What makes you think it is from something other then the ball joint ?

Bummer, Replacing an inner axle seal is a lot of work as it is located inside the axle housing next to ring gear carrier. It requires removing the axles and ring gear carrier to replace it. The tell tale sign a inner axle seal has failed will be 90 weight gear oil leaking down your C yoke. If it has been replaced but is still leaking it was either damaged when the axles were reinstalled of there is a blemish on the axle where the seal rides and it is allowing gear oil to leak past the seal.

I'm hoping it's just the lower ball joint leaking. I don't see any oil leaks anywhere else now, just that lower ball joint on the drivers side that hasn't been replaced yet.

When you hear hoof beats think horses not zebras. I agree with the advice above and if there is no fluid leaking from the c yoke I would say ball joint is due to be replaced.

If your inner oil seals were leaking (pretty rare), and have now been replaced there could be some residual oil laying in the axle tubes that is still finding its way out at the knuckle. Maybe the shop that did the seals didn't do a perfect job of cleaning out the tubes.
If it looks like a ball joint is puking out grease, it is time for it to go.

When you do ball joints on these trucks, you never know what you're going to find

Ain't that right Matt?

Checked and it's only at the Ball Joint. I will replace them in the morning, and my rotors and pads, and get the Alignment re-done.

Should be cool after that, it's been a ruff few weeks.
