89 B2 Engine Problems

I have had my 89 B2 for a couple of months now and it just now started to make a sputtering noise near the engine but i dont think it's back firing but itmight be. But it happens when I shift from 1st to 2nd and then stops when i reach 3rd and 4th. Any thoughts.

Welcome to FTE.

You need to further diagnose this. Where exactly is this noise coming from? Do you have an exhaust leak?
Are all vacuum hoses in place and sound?
EGR connection sound?
Intake plumbing in place and sound?
Smog pump and plumbing in place and sound?

Besides the noise, has performance and mpg changed?

I don't know where the noise is coming from but has no effected the performance or mpg

Well try to find it. New noises are not your friend.

Any luck fixing your problem? The list of areas to check include two that doesn't apply. Don't worry about the EGR, Ford discontinued their use on the 2.9 from 88 on. No smog pump either.
