Loud Noice from Engine Compartment

My 95" Bronco, with 302 engine has a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. I think the A/C Compressor clutch is making the noise because as I am driving down the road you can hear the constant noise and hear something engaging from time to time. Noise is a sort of knocking noise that changes in noise pitch with accelleration. When standing in front of my Bronco, I notice the sound coming from the right side area of engine compartment. Any troubleshooting tips or recommendations as to what I should do short of taking it to a mechanic

Kinda tough to tell what it is unless there. But from the right side, could be your air pump, (Emmissions garbage), alternator...other things...thats if that is where the sound is coming from. Could try getting a friend to listen with the hood open while you rev it a bit...may help figuring where the sound is coming from.

You should get a length of tubing, and use it like a stethoscope. That should help you isolate exactly where this sound is coming from.
