1999 Expedition Trans Question

1999 Expedition Trans Question

I was given a 1999 Expedition 2wd that has a bad transmission. U-code on the door tells me it's a 4r70w. A "mechanic", I use the term loosely , was supposed to get the trans rebuilt and re-insall for the guy who gave me the Exped. Fast forward 18months, the mechanic disappeared after he got a boneyard trans that didn't work. Has wrong mounting points for shift linkage from what I see. I believe the mounting point should be forward of the area of where the shift linkage enters the trans. Either way the trans will not go into any forward gears.

So my question is what years will be a direct replacement for the Expediton?

It's the 4.6l

Could the transmission be the 4r100 that was picked up?

Anything is possible...I'm going to see the X on Wednesday. I'll get under it and get the numbers off the tranny and ID it.

But on a good note, I found a tranny for it at a local boneyard with 50K on it for $500...
