No fuel

390- the old will pump by hand out of the block while hooked up to suction fuel line, the cam chain has a lot of play in it, I can turn the esscentric pump cam with my finger, what not right here ?

Sounds like the retaining bolt has come loose or the locating pin has sheared. Either way the timing cover will have to come off.

WELL, that is not good, I was planning to put manifold , carb, distributor, coil and headers. Guess I'm going to do a cam, and timing chain as well.

Of course the timing cover block side fuel pump hole is stripped. Heli coil ? Cast iron / steel cover.

Heli coil will work just fine. Take your time tapping the threads and don't do it while installed if you don't want metal shavings in your oil pan.

So how do I know if I have solid or hydraulic lifter block, I know this motor was either rebuilt or replaced in the 90s.

If it's a 390 there is a 99% chance they are hydraulic. If it has non adjustable rockers they are hydraulic. Solid lifter motors have adjustable rockers.

Will this work have a Performer cam on the way, If I get 2 mpg more I'd be happy
