Should I replace my muffler

My 02 7.3 F-250 has a muffler that needs replaced. Should I replace it with another muffler, or should I get the pipe to go in place of the muffler and do away with the muffler? The exhaust is currently all stock. Those of you that have deleted the muffler, how muck louder is your truck after doing this?

I have 5" straight pipe. Much louder and drone after I removed the muffler.

I would go with an FTE resonator in place of the muffler. I had one on my 5" exhaust and it made a very cool jet-turbine sound instead of the big-block-chop a muffler gives.

Walker 21470 for me. Not exactly a bolt in deal but a muffler shop can get in pretty easily.
Same V8 diesel sound with more turbo whistle.

I replaced my muffler with a piece of pipe over a year ago. If I did it again I'd put the FTE 4" Resonator in it like in the above link from Mike. It's on my to do list.

Is the FTE resonator a direct drop in replacement for the muffler, or does it require addtl piping on the ends to fit?

Direct drop in. The one I had was flared on the ends. Listing says " 4" ID Inlet & Outlet"

I think it would need a little work to install since stock is 3.5". Nothing a muffler shop couldn't handle.

My stock muffler is laying next to my garage I'll check the length tonight.

Yep, he will need a couple of adapters from 3.5" to 4".

My stock muffler body is 20" but because of how the hangers are welded to it I cut a total of 24" of of the stock exhaust to remove the muffler.
