wow! scratch the 4.56 gears off the list.......about 2 min worth of work and the transmission is working like it should with the psom calibration....
my play in the steering wheel is still coming from the pitman arm drag link balljoint....kinda looks like the pitman arm has a slight play in it too....everything else seems solid....any ideas on what I can do? that's what I want to get rid of..the back and forth play in the steering wheel that's there before the wheels even start to turn..
on the moog parts list....what is considered the outer tie rod, the drag link?
Where are you seeing play in the pitman arm? It's a solid piece with no moving parts, so the play would have to be wear in the splined fitting to the sector shaft, or play in the sector shaft itself.
One other thing not to overlook -- I had a shop tell me my pitman arm was going on my '85. Sure 'nuff, I could appreciate play where it mounts to the sector shaft as my wife worked the wheel back and forth. Before condemning it to spline wear, I checked the nut. It was loose! Not finger-loose or anything, but only about 50 ft-lb. Spec is something like 160. So I torqued it to 150 (as high as my torque wrench goes) and then oomphed it a little more. Snugged up the steering road feel big-time.
If the box itself is worn , don't try adjusting it . Get a replacement . Did you look at the intermediate shaft bushings ?Just grab a hold of it & wiggle it up or down .
Ok. I'll check it in the morning. About the last thing I was wondering is...
Do ladder bars like those tuff country ones work with lifted trucks?
And do they make a single steering stabilizer for a Dana 60?

Well two days later I take the truck to work and the shifting is back to the way it was. Haven't had a chance to check the code to see if it's still reprogrammed. What gives! Can it return to original settings on its own
Yeah that's what I'm thinking...the speedo is way off at higher speeds again I'm worried about ruining the psom by recalibrating numerous times
Well. Just checked it. It shows it at the new calibration but highway speeds r way off again....5-10 mph and its upshift in really quick. I could be at 1000 rpms and it upshifts and runs at 7-800 rpms. Is that normal. Going up hills too it's upshifting instead of staying at a higher rpm. When I first did it was staying at 2000 up hills. Now it's shifting up till it gets below 1000 then downshifts and when it gets above 1000 it quickly up shifts again.

I have it set at 818 with 37" tires. Using a speedo app and the insight I'm off a few mph between all three. The shifting still feels off like it should stay in gear longer before upshifting. Transmission problems? Need to regear? Any ideas
