Is there anyone here that has a 98-2000 4x4 ranger with an automatic and came from the factory with 265/75/r15s(i think, they equal 31x10.5). I'm wondering what gears they came with in the rear end because my truck has the automatic and came stock with 235/75/r15s. While they aren't bad, id like to have the 31s since i think they look much better. I have 3.73 gears and I'm wondering if 31s would put too much stress on the automatic. But if ford put that combination on from the factory,I wouldn't have anything to worry about. Thanks
Awesome. That is exactly what I was looking for. Seems like your truck is optioned exactly the same as mine. Do i need to disconnect the battery to allow the tranny to learn to shift properly with the new size tires?
I don't think you can get off that easy, especially if you have 4WABS. You're probably gonna need to bring your truck to the dealer to have the PCM recalibrated for the new setup. This will ensure too that your speedo reads correctly.
Ken00 has something in the Tech Info thread about this:
What all does this reprogramming the PCM do? When I first bought the truck it had a set of very worn 31x10.5s on it. It was a snowy night and the abs seemed to be working fine. Overall it seemed to be solid other than shifting maybe a little early. If the only problem is the speedo is off, I'll live with that to save some money. But if the PCM has more functions than that, Ill probably have to get it done.
Ok its working in a different browser. From what I'm getting it only controls the speedo and possibly the abs. I'll just test it and assuming the abs works fine it should be fine until I get the chance to go to the dealer and get it retuned
