ECM Programmer Technicians / Hobbyist

As of today my Ex went from 3.73's to 4.10 gears. Added a TruTrac also in the rear with the new 07 diff cover. Which by the way Ford want $300 for the 12 bolts that I paid $15 for Lowes, all stainless steal.

So Ford tech was going to hook me up and reprogram the ECM for the 35" tires and 4.10 gears but its not allowing him to make the change.

On the 02's is that a programmable option?
If it does not get done will it have any affect on anything if its a option?

He has toyed with it a while and now wants me to bring it back in to be charged for the change to be made. Which I understand.

Note: I do have a Hydra chip from GearHead but it is set to "00" which should be the stock programing. Does the chip need to be removed inured for Ford to make any programming changes?

I thought the gearing options were only available on the 03-05 models? Some other wizardry has to be done for the 00-02 years I am thinking.

Thanks in Advance

You are talking about a couple of different things here.
The speedo/ odometer get their input from the tone ring on the RING gear, so they will remain true no matter what gear you have or change to.
The tire revs per mile will need to be changed in the ECM/PCM, I'm not familiar with the process to do that on the PSD though, or if the earlier years are different.

I swapped my factory 3.73s for 4.88s and my speedo read exactly the same. With the speed being read off the ring gear it is actually reading the tire revs so the actual gear ratio doesn't affect the speedo. If I remember correctly there are limits as to how much adjustment can be made to the tire revs/mile, I never had mine adjusted, I just know that the speedo reading is 12% under my actual speed.

That's good to know, was not sure if speed was read by the speed sensor on the rear diff or I think there is on the t-case also.

So really no programming changes needed unless I want my speedo adjusted for the larger tires?

That's correct.
How big are your tires? I know you are looking at some big heavy TTs and was just curious as to what your new effective ratio is with the new 4.10 gears and your big tires.
