Thinking about a new dually. Called my dealership and talked to my salesman about prices on a couple they have in stock. He told me Ford has a new pricing system called "Family & Friends" or something like that. The way it works is that the price is the same at any dealer you go to. No negotiating. Anyone else heard anything about this? Can't believe he is trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Is this "Collusion"....price fixing, so all dealers are guaranteed a big profit? He said this new plan had just started and will run until at least Jan 3rd. Is there a method to get the lowest price possible ?
Ford's "family and friends" is called X Plan and normally requires an employee sponsor. I heard they were going to offer it without sponsorship for a limited time. X Plan is usually about 1-2% over dealer invoice and is set by the factory (usually printed right on the invoice). Employee pricing is also set by FoMoCo and usually 1-2% below invoice. Dealers like to sell on these plans because they can sell at a low price but get a set commission back from the factory keeping a safe margin.

I ordered a 2016 Fusion in September and found the "Friends & Neighbors" price would be higher than the price I got in September when spec'd on the Ford site you build your vehicle. I found NADA website will spec out your purchase and come up with a price that is what one should pay unless than can negotiate a better price. The Friends & Neighbors price $26,682 vs NADA $26,061.
With this new promotion, they have eliminated most of the rebates and 0% financing.
Go to Ford website and request brochures. They are still offering, in the brochures, "private cash" incentives. I got one for $750.
I see it around here as well. they will move a bunch off of it. Local dealer as a general rule keeps his prices very high. That is why I always buy elsewhere.

X-Plan is actually under invoice. Dealer Invoice - 0.4% to be exact and it limits the doc fees to $100.
Personally I think Ford really screwed up with this latest promotion of "Friends and Family Pricing". Yes, you were told in part the truth. You can walk in and get the F/F price also known as X-Plan price. However, if you choose to negotiate which is still on the table you should be able to save even more money from the MSRP getting down deeper below invoice with little effort.
Ford was offering some attractive interest rates and rebates before this latest F/F Promotion which were more attractive to the educated/informed buyer.
Now they are offering a short cut to pre negotiated price, offering less in incentives and higher financing rates. While at the same time GM is offering great rebates incentives and or down to 0% financing.

Yup. I'm with Rodney, the X Plan was the only way for me to get anywhere near invoice without having to drive some crazy amount. In the end I am happy with what I paid and what I got for the X plan.
That is true in the larger markets but for those of us in smaller towns without volume dealers, X-Plan is the only way to get anywhere near invoice.
While there is some truth to that statement. Those in smaller more price controlled markets are however allowed to shop and purchase out side of these price locked dealer radius.
I live in the DFW area when the market is extremely strong and pricing is very competitive. Yet, I have flow out of state a few times and drove home in a new truck simply due to beating local pricing and saving a at least $1,000 after expenses. Just as we drove up to Elkhart, IN and purchased out 5th wheel because the price was $5,000 less than any local dealership would match.
Sure, I can buy from a distant dealer but what's my time worth? I did that on my last truck buying at the largest dealer in the north east, Quirk Ford in Boston. HORRIBLE experience. I also order my trucks so it's harder to negotiate price to begin with and then add doing it over the phone or through email. Ugh. X-Plan and local is so easy. I envy those who can go to a mega dealer nearby and buy an off lot truck for 8-10k off invoice but that's not happening in Western MA. No way no how...
I used the Costco buyers plan. X amount over invoice and all incentives. Knocked $10,500 off my 2015 when they were first coming out and a hot commodity. Plus 50% off the first $200.00 in parts and a parts discount after that.
I bought my 2015 in July. The dealer that ended up winning my business gave me $11,500 off any sticker and then gave me a trade value above KBB by close to $4k.
Shop around and then see how F&F compares. There may be a bit less discounting as we are close to winter but competition helps drive pricing.
I just ordered a 2016 Fusion the end of Sept. I have access to an X-Plan pin and the car manager printed the price using X-Plan along with A and D plan prices. The X-Plan price was the same as what I am buying the car for. Not one penny lower nor higher was this X-Plan price for the Fusion verses what I am paying.
The A and D pricing was lower but not available to average Joe unless Ford employee or retiree.
NADA gave me the same price as I am paying and same as X-Plan price.
The only difference was the doc fees and the funds they get from Ford.
