My wife has a 2003 escape with 180xxx miles that we bought a few months ago from a dealer who had the paper work that the transmission had been rebuilt. Recently its been having trouble going into reverse. Occasionally not going at all, and other times it will work just fine.
I understand that most likely it will need new or rebuilt transmission.
What im asking is if there is a possibility of some other cause and what to check.
Thanks.
EDIT: Also its not the lever at the steering wheel. I've checked and made sure the bolts were tight, and even the cable. I had her push in the brake while I could put the vehicle in reverse under the hood by hand
