Please help I have a 03 F250 with roughly 180,000 miles on it I was driving it home the other day and my transmission started sliping and my tow haul light onbthe shifter started blinking after I pulled over and shut it off for about a min I was able to drive it again with no problems and then it done it again I got it home by doing this repeatedly. Now it's in my garage and if I start it up it acts fine and I can even sqeel my tires if I gold the brake and give it gas both forward and reverse but after it runs for a couple of minutes I have no gears at all. I can shut it off for a min and do it agian and again. There is a noise coming from the transmission that sounds as it would if u stuck a piece of paper in a fan. Is it possible to be a sensor or something please help before I go and pull the transmission
You have to have it scanned for codes with a scanner that can see transmission codes.(not a cheapo code reader) I would drive it as little as possible. If you have to drive it somewhere shift it manually.

I figured I would have to have that done but I was curious if anyone else ever had this happen to them so I would know what I might be battling. Thanks
Without knowing what codes (or even what engine/transmission you have) all I can tell you is something is wrong. Replacing the trans might or might not fix it, depending on whether the problem is in the trans or outside the trans.
Along with the required info to properly troubleshoot that Mark requested...whats the service record on this trans? Was the filter and fluid changed at the recommended intervals or ignored?
Well guide you here a little. Dont assume all trans problems are catastrophic.
Proper troubleshooting steps need to be followed, starting with the simplest moving toward the complex....not the other way...after you tell us what trans/engine you have.
Trans basics:
Fluid level, color and odor... Any leaks... Have the TCM codes read...Drop pan, inspect for chunks. Then determine the course of action.

The fluid is good not burnt and not brown has good pink color no leaks and not sure on the history of the service for the tranny haven't dropped the pan yet and the only codes that my friend got from his computer was p1780 witch all I can find is it being the transmission control swtich but that wouldn't explain the rattleing sound and most threads say that is in the shifter witch I checked and seem to be nothing wrong with the wiring there. One person had very similar problems and changed the TFT sensor and seemed to fix the problem I'm thinking of trying that I just hate to put new fluid in it and it not be it then waste the fluid to get back in it for something else
If you don't want to just guess and throw parts at it than it may be a cheaper route to take it to a trans shop. Look online tor a shop with a good rating. I wrench on my own stuff but some of it is better to take it to someone with the knowledge to find the problem.
Agreed. Root cause analysis will be the least expensive route. If the pan shows little in the way of contamination with pink fluid then you may have caught it before catastrophic failure? BUT you really need an expert to view that and the stored and current trouble codes as well as to put an ear on the audio rattle. The rattle and trans issues could be totally unrelated, hard to assess on line. Not sure what code p1780 indicates? Mark will pipe up on that. Find a good HD truck shop familiar with that trans. Have the pressures read and codes interpreted. You'll be dollars ahead with minimal stress following this recipe. If you do your own wrenching you will be armed with the correct diagnosis for a few hundred then go for it with confidence that you are repairing the correct assembly...not just throwing expensive parts at it till you get it right. You may find that a reman or rebuild is the right path.
Report the diagnosis and the fix back here to close the loop.
That indicates that the PCM didn't see the switch on the end of the shift handle change states while self test was running. The most common reason for this code is that the person running self test didn't push the button while the test was running.

Yes I agree with y'all I'm going to take it to the shop when I get a free day and once I find the problem and fix it I will let y'all know but if some reads this and has had the same problem please hit me back thanks guys
