460 cam/computer id issues

back on my project: a 1989 F250 LWB 4X4 the engine I think is a 1991 but that's all I know. the exhaust manifold gasket told me that. I built a core motor block casting #B9TE A1 head casting #6080BD it is fuel injected. I had block bored to I think +10 but can't remember and it wasn't noted on machine shop invoice. They installed a sealed power cs1086r cam shaft. .006 valve lift / .050 cam lift. The problem I am having is this will not tow a trailer w217tb Thor Vortex 7500lbs loaded over 60 MPH and 45 mph uphill. I was told that the computer will not operate correctly with the camshaft. What I am after is some help identifying the proper year and application that the motor is from so I can get a computer chip custom built. My brain is pretty muddy from the meds I am on and can't get my head around the id process please help?! this build has been on-going for 5 years? still working on dam bugs

figured out the block is a good one 1979 up truck engine. can't find anything on the head casting #'s yet, they are on the top visible next to the valve cover lip middle of the head by the exhaust manifold mounting between #2 & 3 cylinders.

Block is D9TE.
You have E7TE heads on a pre 1993 fuel injected engine.
There is only so much you can do with a speed density system.
The wrong cam LCA will be beyond the computer's ability to adjust.

so am I on the right track of getting a custom chip built for the computer? I haven't gotten the computer out yet, they buried it quite well, so I don't know if it is the original or a aftermarket rebuilt. I seriously need to get past this performance issue, so I can work on interior (according to wife).... any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated!

It's not what you want to hear but you need to go back and put a 'computer friendly' cam in that engine.

EDIT: So I go and look up the specs on that cam and it should be okay.
Have you tried any other troubleshooting?
ie. do you have enough fuel pressure? Ignition timing responding under load?

"Burning a chip" doesn't change the input parameters or the way a speed density system meters fuel.

I have gone thru the nightmare of the fuel "pod" the tank switching issues, and replaced pod and fuel pump in forward tank, main issue was ethanol gas. I am not sure on how to test ignition timing under load but it sounds like a culprit? fuel pressure appears to be good, gauge leaks so not for sure.

I mean that there might not be enough fuel pressure while driving.
Checking fuel pressure with and without vacuum present at regulator port.

The ignition timing will be locked without a "spark out" signal from the computer.
The spout connector could be corroded or missing...
The computer *could* go 'brain dead' simply because the capacitors on the board are past their shelf life (this is VERY common with electronics this old)

the spout conn. is there. I will spray some electric conn cleaner on it as a good measure though. I am not sure how to check fuel pressure with and without vacuum present? hold RPM'S up? I am going to get to comp this week (we have nice weather! 81 yesterday) and get prod# and to see if it is the original or not. When I bought this truck in 2008 it still had factory heater hoses! kinda scary on the maintenance end of things. that reminds me when we first had this truck it would pull a larger trailer (9500lbs) fine but the engine had bad cylinders between #2&3 and was going thru qts of oil that is what prompted the rebuild to begin with. then with the core that I bought and rebuilt these problems started.

Maybe just remove the vacuum line from the FPR with the engine running and a gauge connected to the test port... to simulate WOT?

Electrolytic caps don't last too long.
If the EEC is that old it likely has a problem.

I replaced ECM yesterday, truck seems to be a little better I drove for 30 minutes to make sure got a closed loop on system, and now I need to check for any codes to pop up. Still have intermittent miss. about only thing left that I can think of is the control unit on side of distributor, everything else has been replaced. any suggestions?
