So early this morning I started her up, started smelling raw fuel. Thought that's weird, but waited a little bit. Then the smell got worse so popped the hood. Fuel everywhere and it was shooting out like crazy, from under that plastic powerstroke thing that sits on top. Sooo, get home this pm and get my daughter out to turn it over, thinking it must be a fuel line. Well, she turned the key and whatcha know, the fuel filter cap is broken. Called the dealer and they are $63.00, Clay's is $17.00, holy cow what a difference!!
So the question, has anyone purchased one from an auto parts store and had good luck? I know OEM would be the best, but it takes a few days from Clay and need the truck. Thanks
You will be alright just make sure they are the same because some some with the screen atached to the filter cap. You should just buy the whole thing(filter with cap)
Ok, just to follow up and let everyone know, I don't know how, but the cap was split and it wasn't visible without pressuring up the system. When I went to remove the cap, it would break in pieces. I worked gently with a small rubber mallet type hammer and finally worked it loose and off. I replaced it with a Dorman brand cap from a parts house. So far everything is fine with no leaks. So now I have to find a way to clean the fuel from the hood insulation because it was soaked and smells like raw fuel. I pretty much cleaned the engine compartment with degreaser and rinsed with low pressure, then used compressor and air blower to dry as much as possible.
