trying to sell my f150 on craiglist. I got this text today: I am okay with the price but as for the payment,I will be paying you through paypal all because of the nature of my job. I'm an immigrant. ...I live in Illinois. sounds fishy to me. And if It was legit, how would I get the money out of paypal and into my bank account?
Reply, sorry because of the nature of my job I require cash and can meet you at (whatever law-enforcement building is nearest to you) and will require that the title be in your name before I give you the keys to the truck for liability reasons.....
Scam and a half. Its easy really, they send you the bogus PayPal confirmation email you click it and retrieve your money only to realize it is a fake login and you just gave them full access to your actual PayPal account.
It's a scam because they are ok with the price sight unseen. A regular buyer would come in, waste half your day with test drives and negotiations, point out any and every potential issue, and would have started out by asking a question that was already very obviously answered in the ad.

Boy Howdy ain't all that ^^^ that the frickin' gospel truth?
CJBen run away from this "deal" ASAP or better yet don't even engage those morons in any further conversation.
The problems and pitfalls with this sort of weak scam attempt would fill a book with many pages.
i disagree with everyone. i feel it is a legitimate scam, because he agreed to only pay your asking price, not add an extra $10,000 "for being considerate".

As opposed to an "illegitimate scam" ? Gosh---where do we draw the line huh?
Craig's List brings out the monkeys that's for sure. I listed a Volvo S80 T6 sedan for sale, clearly and in capital letters it DOES NOT RUN! More than a dozen callers asked when they could test drive, they needed a very dependable car etc etc etc.
I was receiving so many calls I simply started asking "you do know it doesn't run correct?" but only if they didn't start talking 100 MPH as soon as I answered the phone.
