E4OD delay into drive

My 94 f150 has a delay into drive. I have searched and only found speculation that the clutch packs are hard and slipping. The transmission shifts very smooth and has plenty of tire burning power. No hard shifts into reverse or any other gear for that matter.
Once shifted into drive, truck wil coast like it should. The actual shift into drive is smooth as well. After shifting to drive, sometimes the truck will take 5+ seconds to shift. Other times I have to bump the throttle to make it shift.
Any ideas what would cause this?

I would check the voltage on the TPS and also check the pressure on the test port of the transmission...I'm no expert maybe Mark will chime in later.. Also, check for codes see if any codes are present....The E4od is computer controlled.

I can't see any way the TPS would be involved with this.

It isn't the clutch packs getting hard, that makes no sense. They are hard when they are manufactured.

What it can be is the seals in the clutches getting hard, or you could have low line pressure. That is usually caused by a bad EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid. You can check for pressure with a 0-350 PSI gauge in the test port on the driver's side of the transmission.

Before even doing that check the trans fluid level. Low fluid could cause this.
