SO before I put my turbo back in from replacing my rebuilt Y Pipe from Bullitt, I decided it would be a good idea to crack open the turbo to give it a cleaning. Good thing I did as I discovered yesterday that my unison ring was frozen. It's been this way long enough for the actuator to wear a deep groove on each side of the slot it sits in in the unison ring. I'm hoping that this is why I had been blowing coolant on occasion when having longer tows.
My question is this, the rest of the turbo seems to my untrained eye to be OK, it spins well and does not have any play in it. Should I be looking to to anything else but clean and replace the unison ring?

How about rust and pitting where the unision ring was stuck? Did it clean up good?
Deltas have always been great. Concern would have been incorrect boost. I did not get to cleaning it yet. Really I just moved on to other projects around the house yesterday when I discovered I wouldn't just be cleaning the turbo and putting it back in. On the vain side it actually looks fairly clean, only a very light coating that wipes off with your finger.
Also, is there a way I can be sure the actuator is still good?
If the slot is hogged out, no need to clean it, just replace it. There may be a number you can check with a volt meter, I don't have it. I think those run about $60, what makes you suspect it's not working?
I have a new unison ring on the way. I just was looking to make sure all the parts were in working order before I put it back in, however I have never had 1 code show up so it's likely everything works.
I have on occasion had some coolant blow out the cap when towing over long distances. Had a ford tech check it over on his own time and he didn't come up with anything unusual. Suggested I replace the tank and cap. Which I just put in.
