Ok, so I figured out that there's only one relay for both pumps.
Question: If there's a faulty relay....will the front pump work and the rear pump -NOT- work????
The front pump works but not the gauge, while the rear pump -does not- work but the gauge does.
I installed an external electric pump to the rear tank but it STILL doesn't work.
One thing it could be is some pumps wont draw because of it being electric, one thing you could do is take the sending unit out on the rear tank and put a piece of hose where the electric fuel pump is and it should work with the elctric pump you put on. Some of the pumps wont draw fuel through them on those electric ones.
Beau.. put a signature in your profile with your trucks vital specs in it(or include that in your post) so we know what year truck and powertrain we're talking about, that makes a difference with these trucks you will discover as there were many changes made over the life of this series.
If you truck is '90 or newer it has a separate fuel pump and level sender in each tank, but all these components are powered from the same circuits and feed into the same fuel lines. So that means one tank can work fine and the other be dead.. which is what you have.. your rear pump is dead. And you have the opposite problem with the fuel senders, front one is dead and the rear is good. There is no solution except to drop the tanks and change those parts.
Thanx for the quick response, 79-ford-f150 and Conanski. Your right, Conanski, I should've put the info in my post. How else was anyone to know what I was talking about????
I was hoping to avoid the dropping of the tanks but, I too think it must be done. Gotta get er done before the snow...
