I can unlock the door(s) of my 98 Explorer using the key remote and door switches but locking them with the key remote and door switches no longer work. What could it be?
The wires in the plug under the switches may have loosened....I had one where the entire plug broke off the mounting screws. Pulling the switch assembly would be my first step.
Do none of the door locks lock from any of the door lock switches, including the fob, or do some of them work?
There are a couple of somewhat common issues that have slightly different symptoms. If just one of the locks doesn't lock, it's probably a broken wire within accordion boot between the door and cabin. If none of them work, then there's a wire that travels from the driver's dash area to the relays in the rear, and along that wire run a few folks have found a wire that breaks under the carpet and causes issues with all the doors.
All the doors unlock using the driver door switch and key remote. All the doors will not lock using the driver door switch and key remote. If I unlock all the doors I have to manually lock all the locks by hand.
You could try starting with the door unlock relay just to make sure the issue won't be as simple as the relay. The unlock relay is located in Aux Relay Box #2. It's probably the same as several other relays so you could try swapping it with the Lock relay to see if the symptoms change.
