I have viewed some of the previous posts about electric door locks, but my problem is a bit different, while the source of the problem might be the same.
My 99 Mountaineer (220,000 miles) will lock the doors when put into gear. Recently I noticed that when the vehicle was stopped and turned off, if the driver's door was open you could not unlock the other doors. I had to close the driver's door and then unlock the other doors, or unlock the doors with the remote.
It has been over 100 degrees for something like 35 days in a row here in Texas. Today, I almost never got out of the car; I could not get the doors unlocked. People were beginning to panic, LOL. I was finally able to unlock the doors on the 5th attempt with the remote
Where do I begin to trouble shoot this problem?

Reason: add something
That sure sounds to me like the common broken wire in the area between the driver's door and the cabin. That's where I would start. Since it sounds like you've already been searching the forum, I won't go in to the details of how to do that.
