Anyone know which states get Calif Emissions vehicles (other than Calif)? Maybe I should ask this over in the 6.0 forum but it seems like every truck I've looked at in Vegas said Calif Emissions, so I don't know if the 6.0 PSDs all come with Calif Emissions or it's some extra stuff I probably want to avoid (if I can get a truck without them).
Yep the CA emissions states are CA, NY, MA, ME, and VT.
Manufacturers CAN sell CA emissions vehicles in the states bordering on those 5 states, so yes in NV CA emissions vehicles can be sold. Prolly easier for the manufacturer to ship large blocks via region.
Dealers close to CA-emission-required states will often order it so they can trade vehicles back and forth. There is no difference in the mechanicals with Ca emissions any more, it's just a certification stating that particular vehicle has been tested and calibrated for CA. Prior to 1996, CA-emissions vehicles did have additional smog equipment.
Interesting as I was just reading a thread over on the 6.0 forum where there's talk (speculation) of the Calif emission truck having more problems with the EGR setup than non-Cali emission ones.
Up through '05, the Cali 6.0 truck was slightly different- it also had to have Cal emissions to be registered in the state, or be used with over 7500 miles on it. For '06, 50-state emissions becomes standard for the 6.0, so it becomes a moot question.
It's my understanding the EGR issue (it needs to be cleaned) is pervasive through all 6.0's- Cal emissions or not.
