i purchased a 1953 ford f100 from the second owner. the second owner claims the first owner "whom is still alive, i guess" said the truck came white and has always been white. the second owner has put a pearl white paint on truck now which is obviously not correct and painted the firewall black right over everything on firewall. now i've looked on paint reference sites trying to find paint codes and it looks like no white were standard, and that you could get trucks in primer and special orders but the paint code on this truck is "17" which doesn't match anything i am finding. any help from someone who might have the knowledge would be great... thanks
this is my first time on this site so when i can figure out how to post pictures i will
Welcome to the forum! Tag stampings are not always accurate as to where they are stamped on the tag vs. the printing below the number blocks. In fact, they are notorious for being off a mile, such as yours. The 17 over "color" is actually part of your production code, 17 G, which is your scheduled assembly date code, July 17, 1953. The color code is the letter to the left, which I think says W? It's hard to read in the pic.

Wayne thanks for clearing the "17" part up. that makes sense it's the same with alot of ford tags. the letter to the left isn't "W" it is "V" which doesn't reflect the paint code info for 1953. 1954 and 1955 "V" was golden yellow from what i'm finding let me know if you have info on this and i will do some more digging...
Here is a good reference for 1953 paint codes/colors: Color Chip Selection
From the photo of the ID tag, the paint on the glove box door and surrounding areas looks original. The "V" code may have been a special order or fleet code...I have not seen that one before.

V= Goldenrod Yellow (M-2J-358 or M0358) is listed for 1954.55 & 56.
This color was not listed for 1953, but it may have been added sometime later in the year for 1953. PPG code 80653
Bill (Numberdummy) may have more or better info on this.
i'm finding that "v" for 1953 ford colors is coming back as DoveTone Gray which is a very light gray which almost looks white. it is just as white as alot of ford whites were in the early years. thanks for all the info
