Have a chance to go look at and or buy a flat head v-8 the motor does turn over and has been covered in a 50 f-1 I will try to post some pic's. One head that I can see has 8CM on it. What would that be? Owner said that the carb has been covered. Can't give to much since it could be fried on the inside . With out pulling it down hate to offer much.

8CM is a Mercury head. Lets hope there's a matching pair. It could indicate it's a Mercury engine with the longer stroke crank. Or, it could be that someone thought putting Merc heads on their Ford 8BA would make it a hot rod. If so, the opposite would have happened since the Merc heads have larger combustion chambers which would lower compression, and power, on a Ford engine. There's no way to know what's inside without pulling a head and measuring the stroke. Good luck with your quest.

I wouldn't give more than $100 for that engine and trans. Don't feel bad if it turns out to be money down the drain. You'd be much better off paying $600+ for an engine that is in running condition but pulled for the inevitable SBC changeover.
