Just got a 1947 truck from my cousin that had been sitting since 1976. In the early 1970's he had someone install a 302 with c4 trans. If I remember right the eyeballed everything and made side motor mounts etc. The problem I am having is I just purchased a 302 and c4 trans I believe the motor was out of a early 80's Crown Vic and the trans late 70's or early 80. I pulled the old motor and trans but when I put in my new one when I had the motor mounts lined up the trans pan hit on the trans cross member and would not fit. The old motor and trans that was in it lined up and they didn't have to cut the firewall. Could the c4 trans be longer. I junked the other and never thought on measuring it. I only know if I lower the engine in the
motor mounts first the pan is hitting on cross member and if I do put the trans in current mount first then the motor mounts don't line up and the engine is to far to the front. I was really wanting to get the new motor and trans to fit like the old one i wouldn't have to cut firewall. Sorry for the long post but wanted to try to be clear of my problem. Would appreciate any input.
Thanks guys but my oil pan clears fine it is the trans pan that is hitting on trans rear mount and not going to work unless I cut original trans mount out. The old trans I took out slipped right in.
Can't you just move the cross member back? At any rate, since you got rid of the old one, your going to have to make it fit somehow. Is the driveshaft going to be too long also?

Not knowing how the 47's are set up but on my 56 I cut the cross member out leaving enough to bolt back in a modified version of the member in case of transmission removal .
The original transmission cross member that holds the trans also holds the brake and clutch pedals. So another problem is created. Possibly a brake pedal could be mounted in the cab with the master cylinder on the firewall.
