i have a 5.0 from a grand marqe(sp) 1986 that has been converted into a jeep cj. originally the car had 2 o2 sensors and i have a few questiond regarding these:
1. can i combine the two sensor input into one and run the o2 sensor at the y pipe? I am running tight fit headers and 2.5 in exhaust to a 3 inch single out.
2. if i have to run two what are the best locations for both?
3. if they fail or are not hooked up at all what does the computer tell the motor to do, run rich or lean?

I just had to add a second O2 sensor in my rig during my latest mod on my rig. And from what I understand about it, is that the O2 sensors should be located within about 18" from the heads.
1) the computer would need both sensors installed
2) If there is room one location is in the collector of the headers. another location is in the exhaust pipe just below the headers collector. Sensors in long tube headers may not work properly unless the headers are ceramic coated.
3) I don't remember which one, if the O2 sensors are disconnected
Hope this helps

wow i am a little surprised by that comment, Ken. I thought that we were all in it for the fun and love of the ford. when looking for information regarding a hook-up of a ford motor into a truck of any type i thought this would be a great place. this is not my only ford related vehicle that i discuss on this board but just the current one working on. i feel that you were a little out of line with your comment.

If you want to discuss non-Ford topics, use the General Conversation forum area. This site is not a general Ford site, and certainly not a Jeep site, its a Ford truck site. The comment was not out of line, though sometimes people don't like it when asked to comply with the guidelines.
