Replacing Ignition Control Module?
Is there anything I need to do before replacing it?
Is it just a matter of:
Disconnect battery
Unhook connector
Unbolt module
Install new one?
I dont have to set the engine to TDC or something?
and should I set the timeing again after I replace it?
Hayne manual has nothing about installing it and Ive searched with no luck.
Thanks
Make sure that you get the heat transfer grease -- should come with the new one. Should also have instructions on where to apply it.
Also, make sure that you get the right module -- I know that there are gray and black ones, and I think that they're different.
Bolt heads are 7.5 mm (I think)-- oddball size ( might actually be 5/16). Requires a thin wall socket. On my I6, one bolt was the ground.
But, it's all electronic, so you don't have to do anything with the timing.
Good Luck,
hj
If you don't have thinwall 1/4" drive sockets, I highly recommend getting the Ford TFI module tool. It should be Lisle number 64650, Napa usually has them on one of the spinner racks. Otherwise it's a 7/32" or 5.5mm socket.
